Baking Soda: Exfoliation
We talk about exfoliation a lot. In few words, it simply helps a process of skin regeneration, by removing the dead cells and by helping new ones to appear at the skin surface. The aim of good exfoliant is effectively to remove the old cells but not to damage the newer developed ones underneath.
All exfoliants on the market are divided into two main groups:
1. Chemical exfoliants, like Alpha Hydroxy Acids that remove by burning the top layers of skin.
2. Physical exfoliants such as brushes or scrubs that take of the skin cells from the top layer by physically sweeping them.
Baking soda works as a physical exfoliant by removing the top layer due to the abrasive particles within the product. As it is a fine, yet hard powder, all processes of exfoliation is highly effective but can be less irritating
Baking Soda: Cleanser for Blackheads & Acne
Baking soda makes an excellent base for an acne treatment, especially mixed with the right natural ingredients, such as Green tea, Chamomile, Kaolin, and Witch Hazel. According to scientific research, baking soda can reduce acne and soothe wounds and other skin lesions, due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps treat the cause as well as relieve the symptoms of different breakouts.
What You Should Be Aware of before using Soda skincare products?
Although many people are happy to use baking soda on their skin and swear that it makes their face look brighter and younger, we do not recommend sodium bicarbonate cleansers for people with sensitive skin.
Our skin is naturally acidic, while baking soda has however alkaline nature. Due to this some people with sensitive skin can’t tolerate alkaline cleansers very well. Some of them outline that their skin feels dehydrated when using sodium bicarbonate or more likely to suffer from irritation.
We would advise that you use a toner after using a soda based exfoliator or cleanser to rebalance your skin pH level!!
