anti-ageing exfoliator

What is your favourite anti-ageing skincare routine step? We love exfoliation! We do really think it is one of the main steps that you shouldn’t avoid if you are after glowing skin. All you need to choose right exfoliator!

By exfoliating your skin you can hit a few goals in no time:

*Restores and smooths out its tone.
*Activate cell renewal processes.
*Correct imperfections: clean and shrink your pores, deacrease the amount of blackheads, pigmentation and fine lines.
*Provide cells with oxygen
*Assists absorbtion of valuable skincare ingredients (even the most effective products are not going to work on keratinized dead cells thick layers).

There are two main types of exfoliants: chemical and mechanical or physical. Chemical: These use either an acid- or enzyme-based formula such as alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) such as glycolic acid or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) such as salicylic acid. Mechanical or physical: These use beads or an abrasive-style substance to literally help buff dead skin cells and impurities away. Some people prefer this style of scrubs as you can “feel” them working on your skin.

At home we recommend to use second type of exfoliation which is mechanical though you can use products like toners and masks with mild concentrations of acids. They have mild exfoliating properties and can be used daily. Please remember that acids making your skin more sensitive to the sun radiation and can be a reason of hyper pigmentation. In order to avoid it please use acids containing products during night time routine and don’t forget to apply sun screen in the morning.

Let’s get back to physical exfoliators. Ideally use them 1-3 times per week depending on your skin type and condition. Please note, if you have oily skin you need to exfoliate less not to trigger sebaceous gland to produce more sebum and make your skin look and feel more greasy. In contrast, people who have dry skin (aging skin is mostly dry) must exfoliate more often with a view to remove dead cells from surface of epidermis.

Mechanical exfoliators can be different as well. If you’re using a scrub which has big or sharp bits in it you can literally traumatise your skin by scratching. Moreover it can get infected easily after this type of treatment. Korean beauty is all about safe way to highlight your natural beauty. That is why the most popular and delicate exfoliator you can use at home is Korean gommage type peel. It is suitable for any skin type, even for thin and sensitive skin.

Normally it has gel or creamy texture enriched with exfoliating ingredients (organic acids, enzymes, rice powder) and hydrating, calming ingredients (Hyaluronic Acid, rose water, Centella Asiatica extract). Gentle and thorough in its action, gommage peel is applied evenly to the face, neck and décolleté and allowed to partially absorb. In 2-5 minutes you can roll the peel off following massage lines, removing it together with dead cells of your epidermis. After you just need to rinse it with water and voila, you have clean, smooth and bright skin.

Warning: Please avoid exfoliation if you have active eczema, open wounds or herpes (cold sore). You need to treat your condition before using any peels.

Highly Recommended: We recommend using exfoliator to fight hyperkeratosis. Also it is essential treatment for aging skin.

Beauty tip: Prior to mechanical exfoliation steam your face. You can use professional steamer or just take a hot shower or bath. Apply gommage peel on clean, dry skin, spread even and leave like a mask while brushing your teeth. Usually this amount of time is enough for the  product to adjust to your skin and for the active ingredients to start working.
